Cobras To Miss Maguate, Nuñez and Belande in 2009

The SWU Cobras will miss key players from last season. Janno Nuñez(6'3", PF) has transferred to UV, Cleford Maguate(6'4", C/F) has a possible ACL tear and Alfred Belande(6'2", G/F) is rumored to have concerns about his academics. The campaign of the Cobras will now be dependent on Eliud Poligrates(5'11", G), Ardd Evan Django(5'8", PG) and a vastly improved Rene Pacquiao(6'5", C).

SWU Cobras Ardd Django Named as Late Replacement for the CeSAFI Basketball Selection

SWU Cobras wily point guard Ardd Evan Django(5'8" PG) has been named as a late replacement to the CeSAFI Basketball selection seeing action in Hong Kong's 17th Super Kung Sheung Cup on December 16-21, 2008. Django replaces UV Green Lancers guard Ritchum Marc Dennison (5'10" SG) who failed to complete his travel documents on time. He will join fellow SWU Cobras teammates Alfred Belande(6'2" SF/SG) and Eliud Poligrates(5'11" PG). Django will share the point guard spot with USJ-R Jaguars' Armand May Ponce(5'9"PG) and UV Green Lancers' Chris Victor Diputado(5'9" PG) while Poligrates will now be moved to the shooting guard spot most likely.

2 SWU Cobras Named to CeSAFI Basketball Selection for HK Tournament

Eliud Poligrates(5'11" PG) and Alfred Belande(6'2" SG/SF) of the SWU Cobras have been named to the CeSAFI Basketball selection that will be seeing action in Hong Kong's 17th Super Kung Sheung Cup on December 16-21, 2008. Poligrates is coming off a suspension from the CeSAFI after having found to have violated league and team rules in the middle of CeSAFI Basketball 2008 season and will be sharing point guard chores with UV Green Lancers' Chris Victor Diputado(5'9" PG) and USJ-R Jaguars' Armand May Ponce(5'9" PG). Belande barely missed out on a Mythical Five spot in CeSAFI Basketball 2008 even as he was the league's 3rd leading scorer after behemoths Junemar Fajardo(6'9" C) and Gregory Slaughter(6'11" C). The SWU Cobras' leader last season in the absence of the also suspended Eric Zanoria(6'2" SF/SG), Belande will share the wing spot with USPF Panthers' Moncrief Rogado(6'0" SG) and UV Green Lancers' Marc Ritchum Dennison(5'10" SG) and Elmer Mykkiel Cabahug(6'0" SG).

Cleford Maguate is the top shotblocker for the Southwestern University Cobras is CeSAFI basketball 2008. The versatile big man is among only 6 players in CeSAFI 2008 to average at least 1 block in each game and wound up 5th best shotblocker with a 1.13 per game average.
